Reply to all Black Belts as “Sir” or “Ma’am”
How to come to attention:
- Gently slap hands on the side of your legs.
- Bow, bending the body 15 degrees forward while keeping your eyes fixed on the person you are addressing.
- Say, “Taekwon”
- Do not return from attention until the higher belt returns from attention.
How to enter the Do Jang:
- Stand slightly outside the do jang with your right hand raised at slightly above shoulder level in a fist with your fingers facing forward and feet together.
- Stand still in this position until the highest black belt (student or instructor) gives you permission to enter the do jang.
- Upon receiving their permission, come to attention, bow to the flags and then enter the do jang.
- Upon entering the do jang address (perform attention) all black belts according to their rank.
How to address the instructor when he enters or exits the Do Jang:
- From a standing position, face the instructor and come to attention.
How to line up when called for the beginning of class:
- Line up in rows with the highest belt lining up on the right starting in the front of the room.

How to begin class:
- Address the flag upon command, by bringing your right hand to your chest in a knife hand while the left hand is hanging at your side and then bow.
- Upon command address the grand master using attention. “Charyot”, “Face Sa Seong Nim”, “Sa Seong Nim Gea Kyong Ye”.
- Upon command, address the master instructor (Sa Bum Nim) using attention.
- Upon command, address the instructor (Kyo Sa Nim) using attention.
How to end class:

How to leave the Do Jang:
- Standing slightly inside the do-jang come to attention and bow before leaving.
How to shake hands:
- Extend your right hand out while placing your left hand palm down under your right wrist / forearm and shake.
How to hand items to others:
- Extend your right hand out with the item while placing your left hand palm down under your right wrist / forearm.
How to accept an item:
- Extend both hands to accept the item and bow.
